FAQ

About WriterJump and 1-on-1 Coaching

What is WriterJump?

WriterJump is a coaching and momentum-building platform for writers who want to move from stuck, scattered, or unfinished to clear, consistent, completed work.

Whether you’re writing a novel, screenplay, memoir, or personal project, WriterJump helps you build real progress with guidance and structure.

Who is WriterJump for?

WriterJump is for writers who:

  • Have a story or project they care about

  • Feel stalled, overwhelmed, or inconsistent

  • Want accountability without pressure

  • Need clarity, structure, and forward momentum

  • Are ready to finish something meaningful

Why do I need a coach? Can't I just figure it out on my own with books and videos?

You can figure it out on your own—but most writers don’t stall because they lack intelligence, effort or access to readers. They stall because it’s hard to maintain momentum in isolation, and difficult to stay enthusiastic without feedback or accountability.

Most writers don’t need more information, motivation or desire. They need clarity, structure, periodic guidance, and someone who truly understands what it takes to finish.

A majority of writers struggle to finish what they start—not because they don't have great ideas, motivation or desire, but because they lack:

  • training and mastery in the fundamentals of storytelling

  • specific goals and action plan

  • a disciplined weekly schedule with deadlines and deliverables

  • an accountability partner or process to ensure follow-through

  • Professional feedback and input in-process

  • A "what's next" business plan to get their story out there

That's what Paul's coaching process is designed for. WriterJump is a momentum-building platform for writers who want to move from stuck, scattered, or unfinished to clear, consistent, completed work.

A coach shortens the learning curve, helps you avoid common dead ends, provides clear next steps when you’re stuck, and keeps the process moving forward. The result isn’t dependence—it’s progress, confidence, and a much higher chance that the work you care about actually gets finished.

Is this editing or coaching?

Coaching. We focus on progress, structure, craft growth, and momentum.

What exactly is "story coaching"?

What story coaching provides:

  • Personalized support tailored to your specific project

  • Clear, constructive feedback on what’s working and what isn’t

  • Practical suggestions for strengthening story, structure, and craft

  • Refresher training and skill-building where needed

  • Professional guidance for long-term growth as a writer

  • Accountability that turns intention into action

  • Simple systems to maintain steady momentum

How this helps you maintain enthusiasm:

  • Keeps you connected to the why behind your story

  • Removes confusion and self-doubt that drain creative energy

  • Replaces overwhelm with clear next steps

  • Prevents perfectionism from stalling progress

  • Creates forward motion, which naturally builds motivation

  • Builds confidence through visible progress and support

What kinds of writing projects do you support?

WriterJump supports all story-based media forms:

  • Novels

  • Screenplays & TV pilots

  • Nonfiction books

  • Short fiction

  • Social media

  • Podcast

  • Memoirs & personal stories

  • Creative life-writing projects

  • Corporate storytelling & marketing

Do I need to have a project ready?

Not at all. Many writers come to WriterJump with only an idea, a vague longing, or a sense that they want to write something but don’t know where to start. That’s a perfect place to begin.

What's the best way to start?

The best first step is almost always the Writer Clarity Session — it gives you direction, momentum, and a personalized plan before committing to anything larger.

Do I meet with Paul in person or online?

All WriterJump sessions and programs are currently delivered online via Zoom, so you can join from anywhere.

How does scheduling work?

Once you book, you’ll choose an available time directly through the calendar. You’ll receive confirmation and session details immediately.

Do you offer refunds?

Because sessions involve reserved time and preparation, all bookings are final. If something urgent arises, rescheduling is always possible with advance notice.

Is my original work kept confidential and copyright protected?

Without question. Your work is always yours. Anything you share in WriterJump sessions or programs remains fully confidential and is never used, shared, published, or repurposed by Paul, WriterJump, or anyone associated with the program. Your privacy, creative voice, and original ideas are treated as sacred. You retain full copyright and control over your work at all times.

About Yourself

What if I’ve already read books or taken writing courses and they didn’t help?

This is a very common concern. Books and many courses out there teach information but don’t support execution — in other words, they're talking to you, not working with you. Story Matters focuses on application, momentum, and completion — not just theory.

By spending time on your story each week, we'll work out the bugs together and help you craft a great final result while also equipping you with tools and confidence to carry you into the future.

What if I don’t want to be a professional writer — I just want this story written?

That’s completely valid. The good news is, the only expectations you have to meet in this program are your own. It supports personal goals, as well as professional ones. Finishing something meaningful is worthwhile on its own.

What if I'm too busy right now?

Most writers are. WriterJump is designed to help you write within real life — even if you only have small windows of time. The goal is sustainable momentum, not unrealistic pressure.

What if I’m afraid it’s too late for me?

It isn’t. Many WriterJump writers are returning to creativity after years away — and the work becomes richer, not harder, with life experience.

Here are just some people who got started later in life:

  • Raymond Chandler began writing his first book, The Big Sleep, in his mid-40s.

  • J.R.R. Tolkein wrote The Hobbit, after many years away from writing, at 44.

  • Stieg Larsson published his first novel, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, at 50.

  • Richard Adams published his first novel, Watership Down, at 52.

  • Laura Ingalls Wilder began publishing the Little House on the Prairie series in her 60s.

  • Frank McCourt published his first book, Angela's Ashes, at 66.

  • Mary Wesley write her first novel, Jumping the Queue, at 70.

  • Harriet Doerr wrote her first novel, the award-winning Stones for Ibarra at 74.

Late starts are not exceptions — in fact, they’re quite common among people who build deep skill, life experience, and voice first. The truth is, you may have more to say, and have a bigger audience, than you might have in the past. You've got time.

What if I've started and stopped many times before?

That’s exactly who this is for. WriterJump is built around the reality that most writers don’t fail because of talent — they stall because of overwhelm, isolation, perfectionism, or lack of structure. We work with that directly.

What if my idea isn’t original enough?

Most strong stories don’t begin as “original” — they become distinctive through development. Truth is, readers and audiences don't need or want a "completely original" idea they've never heard before. On the contrary, we like themes and story types that feel familiar; we just want the spun or presented in a fresh, original ways — an approach we'll explore thoroughly.

WriterJump's services (Writer Clarity Sessions, the Story Matters Writers Program, and 1-on-1 coaching) focus on helping you uncover what only you can bring to the idea and shape it into something clear, compelling, and personal.

What if I fall behind and can't keep up?

The program is built around real life, not perfect conditions. Progress is measured in consistency and clarity, not speed. Falling behind doesn’t mean failure — it just means you recalibrate and keep going.

What if I don’t know whether my project should be a novel, screenplay, or something else?

That’s more common than you think. Part of the program is helping you discover the right form for your story instead of forcing it into the wrong one.

What if everyone else is better than me?

Writers come in at different levels, but comparison rarely predicts outcomes. The writers who finish aren’t always the most talented — they’re the ones with structure, support, and follow-through. That’s what this program provides.

What if I lose motivation halfway through?

Motivation comes and goes for everyone. The program doesn’t rely on hype — it builds momentum through clarity, accountability, and forward motion, which naturally sustains enthusiasm over time.

What if I'm nervous about sharing my work?

You’re not alone! Most people are at first. You'll never be forced to share before you’re ready. Feedback is guided, respectful, and optional at every stage. The goal is growth, not exposure.
